From association to institution
Bunts Sangha Mumbai dates its establishment to 1927. Its college-published history identifies two later milestones: free night high schools began in 1950, and Buntara Bhavan was constructed in 1980. The night-school initiative addressed the needs of working young people seeking an education. The Bhavan gave the organisation a headquarters and a setting for cultural, social and educational work. These milestones help explain the Sangha’s institutional identity beyond its public celebrations.
Education across different stages
The Sangha’s educational history includes S. M. Shetty School and Junior College, established in 1998, and the higher-education project developed after its platinum-jubilee period. Its Kurla complex brings together institutions including Anna Leela College, UKS Institute of Management Studies, Ramanath Payyade College and Arathi Shashikiran Shetty Junior College. The last publishes Commerce and Science streams at higher-secondary level. The institutions share an association background, but each has its own academic information and admissions process. An enquiry to the Sangha is therefore different from an application to a particular college.
Welfare through local connections
Reporting on the June 2024 social-welfare programme describes education assistance and support involving several regional committees, including Navi Mumbai and Thane-Mulund. This local structure matters in a metropolitan area where members live far from Kurla. Reports of the Sangha’s sports gatherings also distinguish regional teams from separate associations such as Bombay Bunts Association, Thane Bunts Association, Mulund Bunts and JAVAB. Similar names do not make these organisations interchangeable.
Using the public routes
Buntara Bhavan in Kurla East is the published headquarters. The main association site is the starting point for Sangha notices, while the educational institutions maintain their own websites. The directory records documented education, culture, sport and welfare activity without promising an open application round. A scholarship announcement, college course page and regional gathering serve different purposes, so the named organiser or institution is the appropriate route for the particular enquiry.
