BETWEEN THE SEA AND THE GHATS
Tulunad
River towns, monsoon fields, familiar flavours and the many voices of Tulunad.

Tulunad is a cultural region on India’s southwestern coast, with Mangaluru and Udupi among its best-known centres. Tulu connects much of its everyday life, alongside Kannada, Konkani, Beary, Malayalam and other languages. Its cultural geography does not fit neatly inside a single modern district.
Explore the places first, or begin with something closer to home: a meal, a festival, a performance or a word you grew up hearing.
